Job summary

General Dynamics - IT is seeking a Virtualization Systems Administrator to ensure the operation, security, and performance of enterprise virtual environments across multiple networks. You will manage hypervisors, vCenter, and VM templates to support mission systems.

The role requires a relevant IT degree or substantial experience, DoD 8140 cert, TS/SCI clearance, and hands-on Linux/Windows admin, with a strong focus on patching, STIGs, and secure config.

  • Senior requires a Bachelor’s degree or 8+ years IT experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Principal requires a Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years IT experience in lieu of a degree.
  • DoD 8140 Information Assurance Workforce certification requirements (e.g., Security+ CE).
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with a favorable polygraph.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise-scale virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V).
  • Experience with Windows and Linux server administration in virtualized environments.
  • Strong patch management, vulnerability remediation, STIG compliance, and secure configurations.
  • Experience supporting clustered environments, vCenter operations, and hypervisor lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize virtualized server environments including VMware, Hyper-V, and related hypervisor technologies
  • Operate and maintain vCenter systems, including certificate lifecycle management, password oversight, and baseline updates
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot virtual machines (Windows and Linux) to support mission applications and infrastructure services
  • Monitor compute resource health, availability, and utilization; identify performance bottlenecks and recommend improvements
  • Maintain configuration baselines for virtual hosts, hypervisors, VM templates, firmware, and golden images
  • Maintain ATO compliance by supporting documentation, control implementation, and updates to system security baseline
  • Perform timely patching of hypervisors, virtual appliances, guest operating systems, and associated tools
  • Build and maintain virtual machine templates, configuration profiles, and provisioning workflows to support consistent deployments

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Virtualization Systems Administrator supporting Infrastructure Services, you will be responsible for the operation, sustainment, and security of enterprise virtual server environments across multiple networks and enclaves. You will ensure stability, compliance, and performance of hypervisors, virtual machines, and compute clusters. You will support technical troubleshooting, implement configuration baselines, apply security controls, monitor systems health, and assist in the design and deployment of new virtual infrastructures.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Virtualization Systems Administrator Senior - Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field or 8+ years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree.
    Virtualization Systems Administrator Principal - Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field or 10+ years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree.

  • CERTIFICATION: Meet DoD 8140 Information Assurance Workforce certification requirements (e.g., Security+ CE, etc.)
