Job summary

Zaden Tech in Chantilly, VA seeks an experienced VMware administrator to support a Defense Health Agency program. You will operate and optimize a large vSphere environment across two enclaves, build automation pipelines, and keep systems STIG-compliant.

Candidates must have 3+ years of enterprise VMware experience, plus scripting skills in Terraform/Ansible/PowerCLI or PowerShell. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DHA designation are required or achievable within six months.

Qualifications

• 3+ years administering VMware vSphere in an enterprise environment.
• Hands-on scripting or automation with Terraform, Ansible, PowerCLI or PowerShell.
• Linux and Windows server administration.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain DHA-designated privileged access.
• DoD 8140 qualification for privileged infrastructure or ability to earn within six months.

Responsibilities

• Operate vSphere 8 clusters, vCenter, ESXi hosts and vSAN storage.
• Right-size VMs, retire dormant ones and consolidate workloads.
• Build and maintain VM templates and automation with Terraform, Packer and Ansible in GitLab CI.

Job description

This position supports a new Defense Health Agency program, and the start date will align with the program start.

You’ll operate and improve a VMware vSphere estate of more than 2,000 virtual machines across two disconnected DoD enclaves in Chantilly, VA. You’ll help consolidate it onto fewer, denser hosts, retire idle VMs and build new environments from code, while keeping the program’s test events running.

What you’ll do:

• Operate vSphere 8 clusters, vCenter, ESXi hosts and vSAN storage
• Right-size VMs, retire dormant ones and move workloads during host consolidation
• Build and maintain VM templates and automation with Terraform, Packer and Ansible in GitLab CI
• Patch hosts and VMs and keep them STIG-compliant
• Work tickets, troubleshoot performance and capacity issues, and support test-event setup

Must have:

• 3 or more years administering VMware vSphere in an enterprise environment
• Hands-on scripting or automation with Terraform, Ansible, PowerCLI or PowerShell
• Linux and Windows server administration
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain the investigation DHA designates for privileged access
• DoD 8140 qualification for a privileged infrastructure role, or the ability to earn it within six months

Nice to have:

• An active Secret clearance or higher
• VCP-DCV certification
• Air-gapped or classified environment experience
• Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation or NSX
