Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a Hybrid Virtual Medical Assistant to join the Virtual Support Center. This role focuses on patient care and excellent customer service as the first contact for patients, providers, and staff accessing virtual or non-virtual ambulatory clinics.

The position requires healthcare certifications or credentials listed, plus experience in ambulatory telemedicine preferred. Respiratory fit testing will be conducted in line with occupational health standards.

Qualifications

  • Two years related experience required.
  • Two years ambulatory telemedicine experience preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting or customer service focused industry preferred.
  • Outpatient clinic operations experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes and interacts with patients, families, and visitors in a professional, timely, age appropriate, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Coordinates communications including phone calls, pages, faxes, etc. in a friendly, professional, and timely manner.
  • Facilitates the appointment check-in and virtual rooming procedure.
  • Performs patient registration procedures per clinic process.
  • Checks activation status of the patient portal and assists access for patient or proxy.
  • Reschedules missed appointments or adds to clinic waitlist.
  • Collaborates with clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Verifies paperwork is completed for accuracy.
  • Ensures appointment is proceeding by confirming patient presence and guardian if needed.
  • Ensures provider license state compliance and safe/secure setting.
  • Completes check out for patients and families.
  • Provides education and guidance around telemedicine.

CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certificate from the National Health career Association
CMA-AAM- Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants
EMT Certified Emergency Medical Technologist from the Texas Department of State and Health Services
EMT-A Certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technologist from the Texas Department of State and Health Services
EMT-B Certified Emergency Medical Technologist-Basic from the Texas Department of State and Health Services
EMT-I Certified Emergency Medical Technologist-Intermediate from the Texas Department of State and Health Services
EMT-P Certified Emergency Medical Technologist-Paramedic from the Texas Department of State and Health Services

One of the following required:
  • CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certificate from the National Health career Association required
  • CMA-AAM- Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants
  • EMT Certified Emergency Medical Technologist from the Texas Department of State and Health Services required
  • EMT-A Certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technologist from the Texas Department of State and Health Services required
  • EMT-B Certified Emergency Medical Technologist-Basic from the Texas Department of State and Health Services required
  • EMT-I Certified Emergency Medical Technologist-Intermediate from the Texas Department of State and Health Services required
  • EMT-P Certified Emergency Medical Technologist-Paramedic from the Texas Department of State and Health Services required

  • Checks on the activation status of the patient portal. Identifies and offers access to the patient or patient proxy according to organizational guidelines
  • Reschedules missed appointments or adds to clinic waitlist
  • Collaborates with clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow
  • Verifies required paperwork is completed by the patient to ensure accuracy of information
  • Validates that the appointment is able to proceed by ensuring the presence of the patient and a legal guardian.
  • Ensures appointment is taking place in a state in which the provider is licensed. Assesses that the patient and other parties are in a safe and secure setting
  • Completes check out for patients and families
  • Provides education and guidance around telemedicine
