Job summary

Hearst Magazines is seeking a seasoned video producer/director for the Central Video team in New York City. You will shoot and direct high-quality video across brand portfolios, collaborating with celebrities, editors, and brand stakeholders to craft platform-first content that resonates with millions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative pre-production materials capturing timely, buzzworthy moments.
  • Lead productions from call time through wrap, coordinating talent, crew, and brand stakeholders.
  • Partner with Hearst Magazine brands to align content with each brand's voice and audience.
  • Identify and produce social-first clips for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels.
  • Manage production logistics, including crew, transportation, releases, scheduling, media delivery, and budgets.
  • Collaborate with editors, post-production, graphics, and production teams to deliver polished content under deadlines.
  • Monitor video performance and leverage insights to inform future strategy.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)
  • Produce and direct high-quality video shoots in studio and on location, working with talent ranging from emerging creators to A-list celebrities.
  • Develop creative pre-production materials that capture timely, buzzworthy, and culturally relevant moments tailored to individual talent.
  • Lead productions from call time through wrap, ensuring seamless coordination between talent, crew, editorial teams, and brand stakeholders.
  • Partner with multiple Hearst Magazine brands—including Cosmopolitan, Delish, Esquire, ELLE, Harper's BAZAAR, and Good Housekeeping—to create engaging video content aligned with each brand's unique voice and audience.
  • Identify and produce compelling social-first clips from longform content for platforms including YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other emerging channels.
  • Manage production logistics, including crew coordination, transportation, releases, scheduling, media delivery, and on-set operations while maintaining budgets and timelines.
  • Collaborate closely with editors, post-production, graphics, and production teams to deliver polished content that meets editorial, creative, and publishing objectives under tight deadlines.
  • Monitor video performance and leverage audience insights, platform trends, and analytics to inform future creative strategy and storytelling.
Qualifications (What We're Looking For)
  • 3+ years of experience in video production, preferably in fast-paced editorial, digital media, entertainment, or similar environments.
  • Demonstrated experience producing and directing both longform and short-form video content across platforms such as YouTube, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other social channels.
  • Experience directing celebrity or high-profile talent with confidence and professionalism.
  • Strong editorial instincts with a keen eye for visual storytelling, pacing, framing, and audience engagement.
  • Deep knowledge of pop culture, emerging digital trends, and social video best practices.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines simultaneously.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and resourceful with outstanding communication and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere is a plus.
  • Experience in editorial video production is preferred.
  • Hybrid role based in New York City with an expectation of working in the office four days per week, plus on‑set production as needed. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends is required.

The base salary range for this role is $71,400–$75,000. This position is not eligible for bonus or commission compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
