Job summary

The Prince George Victim/Witness Program is seeking a Program Advocate to provide direct services and assistance to crime victims and witnesses, while maintaining orderly records and files. Applicants should be able to work with emotionally charged situations and diverse populations.

Required are a high school diploma and some college coursework; college degree is preferred. A Virginia Driver’s License and clean driving record are required, with pre-employment drug testing and background checks

Job description

The Prince George Victim/Witness Program is currently accepting applications for the position of Program Advocate. This position will be responsible for performing work to provide direct services and assistance to victims and witnesses of crimes and maintaining records and files.

Working knowledge of the criminal justice system; of crisis intervention and counseling techniques. Ability to deal with highly emotional or stressful situations; to assess the victim’s or witness’ immediate needs and ensure receipt of needed services through direct services or making appropriate referrals; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

High school diploma required, completion of college level courses in social sciences, criminal justice, or related fields; college degree preferred. Some courtroom experience and/or victim advocacy experience is preferred. Strong customer service skills required. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record

Pre-employment drug testing and criminal background check, to include fingerprinting, required.
