VICTIMS OF CRIME ACT (VOCA) - LIMITED TERM GRANT FUNDED POSITION

The Office of the State’s Attorney is currently seeking highly qualified applicant to fill one (1) grant vacancy of a Full-time Victim Witness Coordinator.

JOB DUTIES:

The Victim / Witness Unit provides comprehensive support, advocacy, and guidance to victims and witnesses throughout the criminal justice process.Victim/Witness Coordinators play a critical role in helping individuals navigate what can often be a confusing and emotional experience. They offer support to those facing fear, uncertainty, and frustration, while ensuring that victims understand their rights and the stages of a case.

Typical duties include:
  • Ensures that initial contact letters, disposition letters, waiver letters, and various other letter types are sent out to clients.
  • Direct correspondence to witnesses whenever phone contact cannot be made. Includes providing information regarding restitution, filing for civil recovery, compensation, dispositions and information about the Department of Juvenile Justice, if warranted.
  • Provide telephone contact and computer inquiry. Interview witnesses prior to the trial attorney to determine if there are any special needs or attention that must be handled.
  • Greet witnesses, inquire if assistance is needed, and provide that assistance. Instruct witnesses as to routine court procedures and specific procedures pertaining to their case.
  • Ability to work with all types of personalities, be empathetic to the special problems of victims of all types of crimes and deal with the frustrations that prosecution witnesses routinely suffer.
  • Accompanying witnesses to the courtroom, when necessary.
  • Creates a victim/witness file for coordinators use. Locates missing information or paperwork for trial attorney use.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the position description, but are within the general responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR CANDIDATES:

Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; High school or equivalent; Microsoft Office; Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and effectively with people; Uses diplomacy and discretion in performing assigned Office duties.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
