Job summary

Hall County is seeking a Victim Witness Assistant to support victims and witnesses, reduce trauma, and guide them through the court process. You will contact victims, arrange interviews, and connect them with essential resources.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2–3 years in criminal justice or victim advocacy. You will coordinate with prosecutors, investigators, and community partners, and ensure timely communication of hearings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• 2-3 years of experience in criminal justice or victim advocacy preferred.
• Knowledge of Victims’ Rights and Victim Compensation Program.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to victims/witnesses to decrease trauma and prepare for court processes.
• Make initial contact with victims by phone or letter; inform them of Victims’ Bill of Rights and the Victims’ Compensation Program.
• Arrange initial interviews with victims/family; inform about case history and safety.
• Refer victims to resources such as shelters and counseling centers.
• Assist victims in completing Victims’ Compensation applications.
• Advocate for victims regarding medical/repair costs incurred from crime.
• Serve as liaison between prosecutors, investigators, court personnel, and community agencies.
• Notify victims of all hearings (e.g., committal, bond, arraignment, trial).
• Provide follow-up services after case closure.
• Collect and maintain required statistical data.
• Make travel arrangements for victims/witnesses from out of town.
• Coordinate witnesses for court hearings.
• Attend task force/coalition meetings with the District Attorney’s Office.
• Perform other relevant work; maintain regular attendance.
