Job summary

S+B James Construction is seeking a dynamic Vice President / Project Executive to lead the San Diego region. This senior leader will drive growth, cultivate client relationships, and mentor multidisciplinary teams while delivering projects in Education and Healthcare sectors.

The role requires a strong local network, strategic mindset, and a track record of winning work and delivering successful projects in a fast-growing market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, business, or related field (or equivalent).
• 10+ years in construction operations, preconstruction, or business development.
• Proven leadership in the AEC industry and ability to grow a regional business.
• Strong network in the San Diego market and RFQ/RFP success track record.

Responsibilities

• Executive Leadership & Strategy: lead the San Diego regional unit with full P&L responsibility; align growth with company objectives.
• Operations & Project Oversight: oversee all project phases; ensure schedule, budget, safety, and quality; mitigate risks.
• Business Development: drive pursuit strategies (RFQs/RFPs) and expand education and healthcare markets.

What we are looking for

We are a growing organization seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial Vice President / Project Executive (VP/PX) to lead and expand our presence in the San Diego market. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving regional growth, cultivating strong client relationships, and leading high-performing teams, with a focus on the Education and Healthcare sectors. The ideal candidate will bring strong local relationships, a strategic mindset, and the ability to both win work and successfully deliver it while growing the business from both a client and team perspective.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership & Strategy

• Lead and grow the San Diego regional business unit with full P&L responsibility
• Develop and execute strategic growth initiatives aligned with company objectives
• Build, mentor, and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align regional and company-wide goals
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including early-stage client engagement

Operations & Project Oversight

• Oversee all phases of construction projects, from preconstruction through closeout
• Ensure compliance with DSA regulations and requirements
• Drive performance related to schedule, budget, safety, and quality
• Proactively identify and mitigate project risks
• Implement best practices, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and consistency

Business Development

• Lead and support pursuit strategies, including RFQs, RFPs, and client interviews
• Drive business development efforts within the Education and Healthcare markets

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ years of experience in construction operations, preconstruction, or business development
• Proven leadership experience within the AEC or related industry
• Strong understanding of Education and/or Healthcare construction sectors
• Demonstrated success in business development and revenue growth
• Experience building and scaling teams and operations
• Established network and presence in the San Diego market
• Proven track record of securing work through RFQs/RFPs and relationship-based pursuits
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build and grow a business
• Valid driver’s license

Compensation

• Full-Time
• Salary Range: $175,000/year – $250,000/year (based on experience)
