Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc. is seeking a visionary Vice President to provide strategic leadership for perioperative and procedural services across TJUH, Inc.

The role focuses on integrating operating models across multiple hospitals and centers to optimize capacity, scheduling, and patient flow. The VP will partner with physicians and leadership to expand capacity, enhance access, and ensure regulatory and quality standards across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required.
• Minimum of five years demonstrated experience in leadership role in perioperative services.
• Prior hospital operations executive leadership experience strongly preferred.

The Vice President provides oversight and strategic leadership for perioperative and procedural services across multiple hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, procedural centers, and other locations throughout TJUH, Inc.

Job Description

The Vice President establishes an integrated operating model across sites and services to maximize the use of available capacity and appropriately match patients, procedures, physicians, equipment, staffing, and facilities to the most appropriate location. The VP will lead a highly integrated region enterprise operating model and may have direct or matrixed responsibility for PeriOp and Procedural leaders across multiple locations. Enterprise strategy & growth: identify opportunities to expand surgical and procedural capacity and improve access across the enterprise Perioperative & Procedural Operations: Optimize OR and Procedural room utilization, block allocation, scheduling practices, turnover, throughput, and prime-time capacity Physician Partnership & Governance: Establish strong, collaborative partnerships with surgical and procedural department chairs, in order to establish clear expectations between physician practices, and PeriOp operations regarding scheduling and operational readiness. Capacity Management & Access: Establish methodologies to measure demand versus available capacity by site, specialty, physician, room, equipment, and workforce. Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Partner with quality, infection prevention, risk management, medical staff, and nursing leadership to improve surgical and procedural outcomes. Workforce & Organizational Development: Assess current and future workforce requirements based on procedural demand, operating hours, productivity, specialty mix, and growth plans. Capital & Equipment Management: Partner with surgeons, physicians, nursing, Supply Chain, Biomedical Engineering, Finance, and Value Analysis to assess clinical need, utilization, lifecycle, technology requirements, and financial impact. Sterile Processing & Surgical Supply Chain: Provide strategic oversight and accountability for Sterile Processing/Distribution and its integration with perioperative operations. Ensure SPD capacity is aligned with current and projected surgical and procedural growth. Data Analytics & Performance Management: Use data to identify performance variation between sites and service lines and develop targeted improvement plans.

Areas of responsibility may include:

• Operating rooms at TJUH, Honickman, Methodist and Neurosciences
• Perioperative services and patient preparation
• Post-anesthesia care and recovery services
• Ambulatory surgery and hospital based procedural centers i.e. GI/Endo at Bala Cynwyd and Honickman
• Non-operating room procedural area: GI/Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy suites, and Interventional Radiation, Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs at TJUH and Methodist
• Sterile Processing / Sterile processing distribution
• Perioperative scheduling and access
• Surgical/procedural capacity management
• Operating room technology and equipment
• Procedural capital planning
• Perioperative supply and resource utilization
• Surgical/procedural throughput and patient flow
• Enterprise procedural growth initiatives

Education: Master’s Degree required

Experience Requirements: Minimum of five years demonstrated experience in leadership role in perioperative services. Prior hospital operations executive leadership experience strongly preferred.
