Job Overview

WSP is seeking a Vice President, Mechanical Engineering for our Philadelphia, PA location to drive technical leadership and business development within our Property and Buildings practice. The role will involve fully managing complex projects in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, labs, and industrial manufacturing sectors from design through construction close‑out.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, review, and approve mechanical design plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to identify improvements across all project phases.
  • Plan and incorporate future‑ready technologies and operating strategies that account for safety and functionality for end users.
  • Oversee cross‑functional engineering teams to execute work on multiple concurrent projects, managing budgets, hours, expenses, technical calculations, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare data visualizations, reports, sketches, and cross‑sections for complex analyses and presentations.
  • Produce comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research findings and recommendations.
  • Manage client relationships and provide technical input on pursuit efforts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct in accordance with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 12+ years of post‑education experience in engineering, mechanical, and infrastructure design.
  • Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical design in the Healthcare industry.
  • Proficiency with mechanical engineering principles, practices, and design/build processes.
  • Experience with mechanical planning, design, and construction management, including renovation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Ability to perform technical computations and calculations applying mechanical engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in coordinating and directing teams to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • LEED AP Certification.
  • At least 5 years of project management experience.
  • 40‑hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
