Job summary

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) seeks a seasoned leader to serve as Vice President for Maine, shaping environmental policy and driving statewide initiatives from Portland. You will collaborate with top legal, policy, and communications professionals to advance climate, clean energy, and environmental justice priorities.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this role blends strategic oversight, fundraising, and public engagement, with flexibility for some remote work as CLF strengthens its presence

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in advocacy, public policy, government, community leadership, or other mission-driven work requiring strategic leadership and stakeholder engagement
• A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with demonstrated success leading and mentoring people, managing complex projects, and supporting interdisciplinary teams
• A law degree and/or active bar membership in good standing in Maine strongly preferred
• Demonstrated success in navigating complex policy, legal, legislative, and/or regulatory matters in both adversarial and consensus-building contexts
• Experience building relationships with external stakeholders, donors, policymakers, community partners, or other key constituents
• Experience or interest and willingness to engage in fundraising and communications
• Demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Lead staff in Maine
• Engage in effective and inclusive management practices that support team members and ensure a healthy workplace culture
• Lead Maine Advocacy strategy and partnerships
• Partner with program vice presidents and other state VPs to strategize and further CLF's statewide and regional legislative and policy agenda
• Develop and implement advocacy efforts before courts and administrative agencies that advance CLFs regional priorities
• Further engagement with communities and other partners to strengthen CLF's impact
• Serve as CLF's Public Voice in Maine
• Serve as a public spokesperson for CLF in Maine in close coordination with CLF's communications staff
• Represent CLF with legislators, regulators, community partners, supporters, and the media
• Lead and Collaborate Across the Organization
• Contribute to organization-wide strategy as a member of CLF's leadership team
• Partner with CLF program leaders and interdisciplinary teams across New England
• Further CLF's development and donor engagement strategy in the state
• Partner with the CLF development team to build new and maintain existing donor relationships
• Support, lead, and effectively partner with CLF's ME State Advisory Board
• Effectively communicate the case for supporting CLF's work in Maine and across the region

Job description

The Vice President for Maine position is a unique opportunity for an experienced leader to shape environmental policy and advance meaningful change across the state. Working alongside some of New England's leading lawyers, policy experts, community advocates, and communications strategists, this leader will drive CLF's work on issues ranging from climate and clean energy to environmental justice and clean water.
