We are seeking a highly strategic and hands-on VP of Finance to build and lead the financial infrastructure of a scaling, technology-enabled business operating at the intersection of Technology and Environmental markets.
This is a broad leadership position with responsibility extending well beyond traditional FP&A. The VP of Finance will oversee corporate finance, treasury, financial operations, legal coordination, capital strategy, and M&A while serving as a key thought partner to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board.
The business operates across multiple legal entities, geographies, currencies, and revenue models, creating a uniquely complex financial environment. The successful candidate will bring both transaction expertise and operating experience, with the ability to move seamlessly between strategic capital decisions and the details required to build a sophisticated finance organization.
What You\'ll Own
- Establish and lead the company\'s overall financial strategy, including long-range planning, forecasting, budgeting, liquidity management, and performance analysis.
- Oversee accounting, financial reporting, close, revenue recognition, audit, internal controls, and financial systems across a multi-entity organization.
- Develop sophisticated financial models used to guide executive decision-making, Board discussions, capital planning, and lender relationships.
- Manage cash positioning, foreign exchange exposure, working capital, and treasury activities across multiple currencies.
- Build scalable processes and controls that support continued growth without creating unnecessary organizational complexity.
- Lead the company\'s debt and equity financing activities from preparation through execution.
- Partner with lenders, investors, financial institutions, and advisors on financing structures and ongoing relationships.
- Evaluate working-capital facilities, private credit, asset-backed financing, and other forms of structured capital.
- Translate complex financing requirements into clear recommendations for the CEO and Board.
M&A & Corporate Development
- Partner directly with the CEO and Board to identify and evaluate strategic acquisition opportunities.
- Lead financial diligence, valuation, transaction modeling, deal structuring, negotiations, and execution.
- Coordinate legal, accounting, tax, and other external advisors throughout the transaction process.
- Develop and oversee post-close integration plans to ensure acquired businesses are successfully incorporated into the broader organization.
Legal & Corporate Governance
- Provide executive oversight of the company\'s legal function in partnership with external counsel.
- Manage commercial agreements, corporate governance, entity administration, and other core legal matters.
- Establish an effective outside-counsel network and determine when legal capabilities should be brought in-house.
- Help navigate evolving regulatory requirements across the company\'s international markets.
Board & Executive Partnership
- Serve as the primary finance leader to the CEO and a trusted advisor to the Board.
- Prepare and present Board-level financial materials, operating metrics, forecasts, capital plans, and strategic analyses.
- Support Board committees and participate in discussions surrounding compensation, audit, financing, acquisitions, and corporate strategy.
- Bring an objective, analytical perspective to major business decisions and provide constructive challenge when appropriate.
Experience and Background Desired:
- Approximately 3–7 years of investment banking experience, ideally including meaningful exposure to M&A, leveraged finance, or other complex transactions.
- Exceptional financial modeling skills with the ability to build models independently and clearly articulate the assumptions, sensitivities, and conclusions behind them.
- Strong understanding of valuation, transaction structuring, capital formation, and financial diligence.
High-Growth Operating Experience
- Approximately 7–10 years of experience within venture-backed or similarly high-growth businesses, ideally spanning the Series A–C stage or comparable periods of organizational evolution.
- Demonstrated experience building finance infrastructure as a company moves from an entrepreneurial environment toward more mature systems, processes, and controls.
- Comfortable being both a strategic executive and a hands-on operator when circumstances require it.
Capital Markets Expertise
- Experience successfully supporting or leading both equity and debt fundraising.
- Exposure to private credit, asset-backed lending, working-capital facilities, or other structured financing is highly desirable.
- Able to develop relationships with investors and lenders and confidently represent the company\'s financial position to sophisticated capital providers.
Legal & Governance Exposure
- Experience overseeing legal matters in addition to core finance responsibilities.
- Comfortable managing external attorneys and taking ownership of commercial agreements, corporate governance, and entity-related matters.
- Able to identify risk, prioritize issues, and determine when specialized legal support is required.
Analytical & Operational Mindset
- Extremely strong financial and analytical capabilities with a willingness to get into the details.
- Comfortable operating in an environment where the financial model is complex and the infrastructure is still being built.
- Able to establish structure and discipline without slowing down a fast-moving organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when translating complex financial matters for non-financial stakeholders.
- Highly comfortable incorporating AI into financial analysis, research, diligence, forecasting, documentation, and day-to-day decision-making.
- Curious about emerging technology and interested in building a finance function that uses automation and AI to increase leverage and productivity.
- Demonstrated willingness to rethink conventional finance processes rather than simply replicate legacy approaches.
This is an opportunity to build a finance organization at a particularly interesting point in the company\'s evolution. The role combines finance leadership, capital markets, M&A, and strategic planning in a single executive seat.
You will have significant influence over how the organization funds its growth, structures its operations, evaluates acquisitions, manages risk, and prepares for its next stage of scale.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys complicated problems, wants genuine ownership, and is energized by the opportunity to build rather than inherit. Experience in environmental markets, energy, commodities, or climate-related businesses is valuable, but equally important is intellectual curiosity and an appetite for learning a technically complex industry.
This is a high-impact role for a finance leader who wants to operate as a true strategic partner to the CEO and Board, while still having the authority and responsibility to build the underlying financial organization from the ground up.
