Confidential in New York, NY is seeking a hands-on, commercially oriented finance executive to lead the accounting and finance function, potentially titled VP Finance or CFO. Reporting to the CEO and PE sponsor, this role combines strong accounting with strategic oversight to scale a growing professional services business.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial planning.
• Improve visibility into project profitability, labor utilization, margins, cash flow, and key operating metrics.
• Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, reporting capabilities, and the finance organization.
• Oversee systems modernization and evaluate/implement financial software to support growth.
• Partner with CEO and PE sponsor as trusted financial advisor; support M&A due diligence and integration.

As the company enters its next phase of growth, ownership is investing in the development of a more sophisticated and scalable finance organization to support operational performance, strategic decision-making, and long-term value creation.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on, commercially oriented finance executive to lead the company’s accounting and finance function. Depending on the selected candidate’s background and experience, the position may carry the title of VP, Head of Finance or Chief Financial Officer.

Reporting to the CEO and partnering closely with the private equity sponsor, this executive will strengthen financial reporting, improve visibility into business performance, modernize systems, and support future growth initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong accounting and financial management capabilities with the strategic perspective needed to help scale a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Leadership: Lead accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial planning.
• Operational Performance: Improve visibility into project profitability, labor utilization, margins, cash flow, and critical operating metrics.
• Finance Infrastructure: Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, reporting capabilities, and the finance organization.
• Systems Modernization: Lead the evaluation and implementation of financial systems and technology to support scalability.
• Strategic Partnership: Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the CEO, operating leadership, and private equity sponsor.
• Growth and M&A: Support acquisition analysis, financial due diligence, and integration of acquired businesses.
• Team Development: Lead and develop the existing finance team while identifying opportunities to enhance capabilities.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Senior finance leadership experience as a CFO, VP Finance, Head of Finance, Corporate Controller, or divisional finance leader.
• Strong accounting foundation; CPA and/or public accounting experience preferred.
• Experience in project-based businesses, ideally engineering, construction-related services, consulting, or adjacent B2B professional services.
• Knowledge of project accounting, revenue recognition, profitability analysis, and financial reporting.
• Experience building scalable finance processes, reporting tools, and systems.
• Exposure to private equity, M&A, or acquisition integration desirable.
• Hands-on, collaborative leadership style, with the ability to operate strategically and tactically.

Compensation and Opportunity

The anticipated base salary range is $250,000-$300,000, with flexibility based on qualifications and experience. The package is also expected to include an annual bonus opportunity and long-term incentive or equity participation.
