Location: San Francisco headquarters with additional U.S. offices and international hubs. This is an in-office position requiring three days per week in the office (Tuesday–Thursday) with flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About this role

As VP, Engineering for Talent and Performance, you will lead the engineering strategy and execution for Udemy\'s core marketplace platforms that connect millions of learners with instructors globally. You will drive technical innovation at scale and mentor high-performing engineering teams. You will collaborate with leaders across finance, product management, sales, and services.

What you\'ll be doing
  • Translate requirements to solution vision and technical directions. Communicate plans to senior leadership and dependency teams.
  • Guide teams in software development best practices, documentation, coding standards, performance, fault tolerance, and scalability.
  • Identify critical touchpoints and build key experiences to address learners\' needs and learning journeys.
  • Own end-to-end technical aspects of learner and instructor content workflows.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of B2B customers, internal users, integrations, systems, APIs, marketing tools, platforms, and channels.
  • Communicate and align plans and dependencies with broader Engineering teams.
  • Partner with product, design, and business stakeholders to translate strategic vision into scalable technical solutions that enhance user experience and drive growth.
  • Drive technical architecture decisions and engineering standards to support marketplace scalability, reliability, and performance across global markets.
  • Represent engineering perspectives in executive discussions and contribute to technology roadmap development.
What you\'ll have
  • 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience with at least 5 years in senior engineering leadership, managing large, distributed teams.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering organizations at scale, including managing 50+ engineers across multiple teams and domains.
  • Deep expertise in modern software development technologies, cloud platforms, microservices, and distributed systems at consumer internet scale.
  • Experience building and scaling marketplace or two-sided platform products with millions of active users.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making skills, using metrics and analytics to guide strategy and development.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management across all organizational levels.
  • Experience driving organizational transformation and change management in fast-growing tech companies.
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities to deliver high-quality products on competitive timelines.

Compensation range: $355,000 — $415,000 USD.
