  • Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loans, monitoring performance, maturities, renewals, and past-due accounts.

Job description

Founded in 1976, Interamerican Bank is a trusted community bank serving individual and corporate customers across South Florida. Headquartered in Miami, the Bank operates branches in Westchester, West Miami, Hialeah, Kendall, and Palm Beach County, providing convenient access to a full range of financial services. We focus on building long-term relationships and delivering personalized, first-class banking experiences that often span generations. Interamerican Bank offers competitive residential and commercial real estate loans, business loans, HELOCs, and a variety of deposit products while remaining committed to its community banking values. The Bank is FDIC insured, an equal housing lender, and serves customers in both English and Spanish.

Role Description

Interamerican Bank is seeking a VP - Commercial Loan Officer to grow our commercial real estate lending business in South Florida. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Miami, FL. This role is for an established producer who already owns a book of direct client relationships and can bring meaningful, sustainable production to the Bank - this is not a broker-fed origination role.

Reporting to the Chief Lending Officer, you will originate, structure, and manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loans, with a strong personal underwriting discipline that ensures only well-qualified opportunities move forward to Credit.

What You'll Need to Bring
  • An existing portfolio of direct clients. Candidates must have their own established relationships with borrowers, developers, and investors - not a pipeline that is mainly broker-referred. You should be able to speak to how you originate and maintain client relationships directly.
  • Annual production of $10 million-$15 million in new commercial real estate loan volume.
  • Deep experience in South Florida commercial real estate, with a focus on income-producing properties such as multifamily, office, and retail/shopping centers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Business Development: Originate new commercial real estate loan opportunities directly from your own client and referral network, meeting annual production goals of $10M-$15M.
  • Credit Analysis Before Submission: Perform a thorough first-level analysis of each loan - cash flow, debt service coverage, collateral, sponsor strength, and overall structure - before submitting to Credit. Loans should be well-vetted and priced to close, not handed off for Credit to determine viability.
  • Loan Structuring & Closing: Structure and close commercial real estate loans up to the Bank's in-house lending limit of approximately $6 million; for larger transactions, identify and coordinate participation with correspondent banks, provided the loan and lead lender meet the Bank's credit standards.
  • Loan Committee Presentation: Prepare and present loan requests to the Loan Committee, articulating credit rationale, structure, and risk mitigants clearly and confidently.
  • Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loans, monitoring performance, maturities, renewals, and past-due accounts.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for borrowers throughout the life of the loan, and continue cultivating relationships that generate repeat and referral business.
  • Cross-Selling: Introduce clients to other Bank products and services (deposit, treasury management, etc.) to deepen relationships.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience originating and underwriting commercial real estate loans, with a demonstrated track record of $10M+ in annual production from a self-sourced client base.

  • Proven experience presenting to and working with Loan Committees.
  • Established network of CRE owners, investors, and developers in South Florida (multifamily, office, retail/shopping centers).
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
