Role Summary

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) leads all aspects of information technology at CRICO. This role demands an innovative, strategic, and operationally adept executive who advances CRICO's mission through technology. The CIO aligns IT with enterprise-wide goals, manages a diverse team, and ensures delivery of secure, robust, and cutting-edge technology solutions.

The CIO reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will lead a team of 40+ full-time employees and consultants. This individual oversees IT Infrastructure and Operations, Information Security, Software Engineering, QA, Data Engineering and Architecture, Business Systems Analysis, and the Project Management Office.

As a member of the IT leadership team and CRICO's management team, the CIO will contribute to the development and execution of company-wide business, IT strategies and the delivery of capabilities required to achieve business success.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Direction
  • Serve as a visionary leader and advisor who aligns technology with CRICO's business goals, operational needs and long-term priorities.
  • Drive strategic planning, resource allocation, and budget alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Develop a technology roadmap supporting CRICO's unique needs in the medical professional liability (MPL) industry.
  • Develop and oversee an organization wide strategy to leverage AI including use-case prioritization, responsible adoption, governance, and security.
Program & Systems Oversight
  • Lead implementation of enterprise programs and modern project management practices that deliver measurable improvements in productivity, cycle time, user experience, data quality, controls, and business outcomes.
  • Advance CRICO's data analytics platform by integrating new and existing datasets.
  • Partner with senior leadership to inform strategy and execute large-scale initiatives.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage IT vendors while balancing internal capabilities.
  • Oversee IT governance, architecture & technology standards, KPIs, and service-level expectations.
Organizational Development & Collaboration
  • Cultivate a forward-thinking IT culture grounded in innovation, collaboration, accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong internal relationships across CRICO to guide strategic initiatives.
  • Convene a board-level Technology Advisory Committee and engage with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
  • Develop and support a high-performing IT leadership team with clear accountability, strong communication, and a focus on service excellence.
  • Oversee IT budgeting, forecasting, and portfolio planning, ensuring optimal use of available resources.
  • Balance innovation with fiscal responsibility, particularly around vendor engagement, project delivery, and long-term technology investments.
  • Lead strategic investments that strengthen infrastructure and analytics.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required in support of CRICO's evolving business and technology priorities.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field required.
  • Masters of Business Administration Degree preferred.
  • Senior-level IT leadership experience, ideally as a CIO or comparable executive technology leader. Comfortable presenting at board meetings.
  • Demonstrated success in enterprise strategy, budget management, and matrix environments.
  • Strong track record assessing established technology environments and creating prioritized improvement roadmaps.
  • Experience with MPL insurance or healthcare-related technology is a strong plus.
Skills
  • Proven knowledge of IT infrastructure, information security, data analytics platforms, software development, AI technologies, and vendor management.
  • Strategic and operational planning with the ability to build and execute scalable, sustainable systems.
  • Ability to inspire teams to innovate, continuously improve, and achieve stretch goals.
  • Strong understanding of IT governance, cybersecurity frameworks, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and strong cross-functional relationships across the company to achieve common goals.
  • Proficient in utilizing data analysis tools and methodologies to extract actionable insights, including the acquisition and management of data, and utilizing data to reinforce targeted messages to specific audiences .
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards, transparency, teamwork, and customer service excellence.
People Management

Directly manages 7 employees and oversees the IT department.

Summary

The expected salary range for this position is $270,000 to $315,000 annually . This represents the employer's good faith estimate of the compensation range at the time of posting. Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, education, and qualifications.
