The University of Minnesota Medical School (UMMS) seeks a visionary and collaborative academic leader to serve as its next Vice Dean for Education. This is an opportunity to shape the future of medical and health professions education at one of the nation's leading public medical schools while advancing a bold vision for educational excellence, innovation, and workforce impact. As a member of the Dean's Cabinet, the Vice Dean will provide executive leadership for the education mission, partner with academic and health system leaders across the state, and position the Medical School as a national leader in educational innovation and learner success.

Founded in 1888, the University of Minnesota Medical School is one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive academic medical centers, encompassing 27 departments, nearly 3,000 faculty, 20 centers and institutes, and 29 degree programs. The Medical School ranks among the nation's leading public medical schools, with more than $296 million in sponsored research funding and a top 25 NIH funding ranking. Its statewide footprint spans the Twin Cities, Duluth, and St. Cloud campuses and is supported by major academic and clinical partnerships including M Health Fairview, Hennepin Healthcare, Health Partners, the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, and Masonic Children's Hospital.

The Medical School oversees one of the country's most extensive health sciences education portfolios, including. more than 900 MD students, 56 MD/PhD students, approximately 700 graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, as well as more than 1,000 residents and fellows training through over 120 residency and fellowship programs. In addition, the School provides education in physical therapy, genetic counseling, mortuary science, continuing professional development, and rural medical education through programs such as the Rural Physician Associate Program. A hallmark of the institution is its commitment to interprofessional and statewide education, preparing future healthcare professionals to serve communities across Minnesota and beyond.

The Vice Dean will provide strategic and executive leadership for this expansive educational enterprise, overseeing a team that includes leaders in UME, GME, Graduate Education, Continuing Professional Development, Physical Therapy, Genetic Counseling, Mortuary Science, Rural Physician Associate Program, Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships, Anatomy and Bequest Program, and others. Key priorities include strengthening and integrating the Medical School's statewide education mission across the Twin Cities, Duluth, St. Cloud, and affiliated partner sites; advancing innovation in artificial intelligence, competency-based education, simulation, assessment, and educational technology; addressing Minnesota's healthcare workforce needs with particular focus on rural, Indigenous, and underserved communities; and ensuring excellence across a geographically distributed portfolio of educational programs. The Vice Dean will also play a critical role in financial stewardship, long-range planning, resource allocation, and philanthropic engagement to support the continued growth and impact of the education mission.

The ideal candidate will be a nationally respected academic leader with a distinguished record in medical education, innovation, and organizational leadership. The Medical School seeks an individual who can serve as a strategic leader at the executive level, build partnerships across campuses, health systems, and communities, champion emerging approaches to education, and inspire faculty, learners, and institutional stakeholders around a shared vision for the future. Experience leading complex, multi-campus educational enterprises, advancing workforce development initiatives, and fostering excellence across the educational continuum will be highly valued.

The base salary range for this position is $450,000-$525,000 commensurate with the selected candidate's qualifications, education, and experience. In addition, this leader will be eligible for retirement and additional benefits.
