Job summary

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center (AESC) in Parker, CO is seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to support three board-certified surgeons in a busy ER and specialty hospital.

The Surgery Technician will participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, assist with soft tissue, orthopedic, laparoscopic surgeries, monitor anesthesia, and maintain patient care from pre-op to recovery. Colorado CVT/RVT/LVT and an AAS in Veterinary Tech required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of veterinary technician experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years of veterinary technician experience in a surgical setting required.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician in Colorado or ability to become registered on hire.
  • Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology required.
  • Fluent English skills; multilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications and monitors patients during surgical procedures, including pre- and post-op care and anesthesia recovery.
  • Facilitates outpatient care for surgeons with consultations and rechecks.
  • Performs IV/IM/SubQ injections, venous access, and advanced tech duties.
  • Performs radiographs and assists with all types of surgery and anesthesia.
  • Supports operating room setup, instrument turnover, and safety/compliance tasks.
  • Restraint animals for exams/procedures and documents care in the medical system.
  • Communicates with clients about estimates and payments; collaborates with hospital departments.

Compensation
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technicians: $25-$35 hourly, based on experience

Job Description

The Surgery Technician supports three board certified surgeons and the related patient care of surgical cases. The surgery team is a dynamic group within an ER and Specialty Hospital that has a busy caseload of elective and emergency procedures. The surgery technicians participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation. The Surgery Technician assists with various surgeries including soft tissue, orthopedic, laparoscopic, and other advanced surgeries.

Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the Anesthesiologist and Surgeons, administers medication and manages/monitors patients during surgical procedures—including pre and post op care and anesthesia recovery.
  • Facilitates patient care of outpatient appointments for surgeons—consults and rechecks.
  • Performs IV, IM and SubQ injections, IV catheter placements and advanced veterinary technician skills (arterial catheter placement, epidural administration, splint placements).
  • Performs radiographs.
  • Assists with all types of surgery, anesthesia, and other procedures as needed.
  • Participate in surgery team responsibilities that facilitate efficient patient care: setting up and turning over Operating Rooms, preparing exam rooms and instruments, completing daily safety and cleaning duties.
  • Perform and assist with all aspects of animal restraint for exams and procedures.
  • Utilizes Ezyvet and Smartflow for documentation of patient care.
  • Communicates with clients, including financial estimates and collecting payment.
  • Interfaces with and assists other departments within the hospital as needed.
  • Other duties as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least THREE YEARS of veterinary technician experience is REQUIRED
  • At least TWO YEARS of veterinary technician experience is REQUIRED in a surgical setting
  • Registered Veterinary Technician, in Colorado, or the ability to become registered upon hire.
  • Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology REQUIRED
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of Veterinary Technician experience running anesthesia in a Specialty Hospital with board certified surgeons
  • Experience with more critical anesthesia
  • Ability to multitask and anticipate the department's needs.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Experience using Medical Record and Whiteboard programs in a veterinary setting.
