Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Houston seeks an experienced Relief Veterinary Technician for our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. You will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, and perform digital radiography with proper technique, while maintaining patient vitals and client communication.

You will mentor teammates, handle IV catheters, phlebotomy, and central line care, and contribute to a fast-paced, high-quality care environment with a focus on pets and families.

Qualifications

• Experience as a veterinary technician in emergency/critical care.
• Ability to induce, monitor and recover anesthesia.
• Proficiency in triage and vitals monitoring.
• Proficient in phlebotomy and IV catheter placement.
• Experience with digital radiography.
• Strong mentoring and client communication.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases upon arrival and obtain vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique and patient positioning.
• Maintain understanding of normal vital sign ranges and alert veterinarians to changes.
• Identify at-risk patients and initiate CPR when needed.
• Calculate medical dosages and administer medications appropriately.
• Perform phlebotomy and place peripheral IV catheters.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central lines as required.
• Mentor and train co-workers; provide empathy to clients.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Relief Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
