Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Tampa, FL is seeking an extraordinary Radiation Oncology Veterinary Technician to join our team. The role offers substantial growth opportunities and hands-on training in a fast-paced oncology service.

You will work under doctors and senior technicians to set up radiation therapy, administer doses, monitor anesthesia, manage patient histories, and educate clients. A background in Radiation Oncology is preferred, and we provide ongoing skill development.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Radiation Oncology.
  • Ability to perform basic RT patient set-ups under supervision of doctors.
  • Ability to administer appropriate radiation doses to patients under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Understand radiation energies/modalties and uses.
  • Perform RT patient set-ups under supervision.
  • Administer radiation doses under supervision of higher-level technicians.
  • Discharge Oncology patients and educate clients.
  • Obtain thorough histories for Oncology patients, including medications and response to treatment.
  • Apply critical thinking and notify doctors about laboratory results.
  • Understand pharmacodynamics/pharmacokinetics of medications.
  • Place peripheral over-the-needle catheters.
  • Recognize abnormal heart and lung sounds; perform medical math.
  • Initiate CPR per RECOVER guidelines when needed.
  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia.
  • Maintain and care for anesthesia equipment.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Radiation Oncology Veterinary Technician!

Pay: $21.00 - $42.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

The ideal candidate should have experience in Radiation Oncology. Along with a great attitude and a strong drive to succeed and build your career in Veterinary medicine, you will have huge growth opportunities within the service itself. We will also train the right candidate!

As a Radiation Oncology Veterinary Technician, you will:

  • Understanding the different types of radiation energies/modalities and appropriate uses for each
  • Ability to perform basic RT patient set-ups under the supervision of doctors and higher-level technicians
  • Ability to administer appropriate radiation doses to patients under the supervision of higher-level technicians
  • Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education.
  • Ability to admit Oncology patients and obtain through history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration.
  • Apply critical thinking skills, understand and notify doctors appropriately when working with laboratory results
  • Understand pharmacodynamics & pharmacokinetics of commonly used medications
  • Able to place peripheral over-the-needle catheter in all peripheral vessels
  • Recognize abnormal heart and lung sounds
  • Accurately calculates all medical math including advanced and CRIs.
  • Recognizes patients at risk for arrest and initiates CPR according to R.E.C.O.V.E.R guidelines
  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia
  • Ability to maintain and care for anesthesia equipment
