Veterinary Technician – Oncology

South Carolina Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care, a Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner, located in Columbia, SC, is seeking a compassionate, detail‑oriented, and experienced Veterinary Oncology Technician to join our Specialty Healthcare Team.

The Ideal Candidate

• Minimum 3 years of veterinary experience, at least 1 year in veterinary medical oncology
• Enjoys working as part of a collaborative team to provide exceptional patient care
• Enjoys connecting with clients and providing compassionate, empathetic support
• Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrates attention to detail, strong organization, and emotional intelligence
• Remains calm and professional in emotionally challenging situations
• Is dependable, ethical, and committed to continued learning and growth
• Experienced, motivated, enthusiastic, strong problem‑solver, and advocate for oncology patients and families (licensure preferred but not required)
• This is a full‑time position.

Job Responsibilities

• Work alongside our board‑certified oncologist to deliver comprehensive oncologic care
• Assist with oncology consultations, diagnostics, and treatment plans
• Safely prepare and administer chemotherapy following hospital safety protocols
• Perform IV catheter placement and blood draws, including jugular venipuncture
• Provide patient restraint for ultrasound, radiographs, venipuncture, and chemotherapy administration
• Prepare, position, monitor, and operate CT imaging equipment
• Apply oncology terminology, chemotherapy drugs, and disease processes knowledge
• Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
• Proper radiographic positioning and imaging techniques
• Perform accurate medical math
• Monitor hospitalized oncology patients and maintain accurate medical records
• Work compassionately with clients to answer questions, provide updates, and explain treatment plans
