Veterinary Technician – Oncology
South Carolina Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care, a Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner, located in Columbia, SC, is seeking a compassionate, detail‑oriented, and experienced Veterinary Oncology Technician to join our Specialty Healthcare Team.
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 3 years of veterinary experience, at least 1 year in veterinary medical oncology
- Enjoys working as part of a collaborative team to provide exceptional patient care
- Enjoys connecting with clients and providing compassionate, empathetic support
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates attention to detail, strong organization, and emotional intelligence
- Remains calm and professional in emotionally challenging situations
- Is dependable, ethical, and committed to continued learning and growth
- Experienced, motivated, enthusiastic, strong problem‑solver, and advocate for oncology patients and families (licensure preferred but not required)
- This is a full‑time position.
Job Responsibilities
- Work alongside our board‑certified oncologist to deliver comprehensive oncologic care
- Assist with oncology consultations, diagnostics, and treatment plans
- Safely prepare and administer chemotherapy following hospital safety protocols
- Perform IV catheter placement and blood draws, including jugular venipuncture
- Provide patient restraint for ultrasound, radiographs, venipuncture, and chemotherapy administration
- Prepare, position, monitor, and operate CT imaging equipment
- Apply oncology terminology, chemotherapy drugs, and disease processes knowledge
- Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Proper radiographic positioning and imaging techniques
- Perform accurate medical math
- Monitor hospitalized oncology patients and maintain accurate medical records
- Work compassionately with clients to answer questions, provide updates, and explain treatment plans
