Job summary

The Indian River County Board of County Commissioners seeks a Veterinary Technician to support routine medical, surgical, and necropsy procedures under the Animal Services Veterinarian. The role involves field, clinic, and office work with exposure to animals, odors, and chemicals, including on-call during emergencies.

Responsibilities include administering treatments, taking vital signs, radiographs, maintaining records, handling specimens, and assisting with exams and euthanasia per ACPS/FACA

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with two years of related training/experience.
• VTNE may substitute for six months of experience.
• Euthanasia certification must be obtained before probation end.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Knowledge of animal care, kennel facilities, and medical terminology.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied environments.

Responsibilities

• Administers basic medical treatments under veterinarian direction.
• Rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Cleans and disinfects shelter areas to protect animal health.
• Draws blood and handles lab specimens for tests.
• Performs radiographs and maintains medical records.
• Maintains inventory of medications and supplies.
• Provides customer assistance and information on adoption policies.
• Assists with examinations, restraint, and animal handling.
