Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Golden Valley, MN is seeking an Emergency and ICU Veterinary Technician to join our ER/ICU team. This full-time overnight role offers a sign-on bonus and shift differentials, with 3-day work weeks possible.

Licensing as an LVT is not required, and compensation ranges from $22.00 to $43.00 per hour depending on experience and licensing. Training through our competency tool and Mars Veterinary Health resources supports your growth.

Qualifications

• Experience as an emergency/ICU veterinary technician.
• Ability to monitor anesthesia and vital signs.
• Proficient in radiography and IV catheter placement.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia.
• Triage emergencies and obtain vitals.
• Perform radiography, CT, endoscopy, and ultrasonography as needed.
• Maintain ICU care with continuous monitoring and comfort.
• Mentor coworkers and communicate with clients empathetically.

Position

Emergency and ICU Veterinary Technician (LVT licensing not required) with our ER/ICU department.

Work Schedule

Full-Time; Overnight - with 3-day work week options available!

Pay Range

$22.00 - $43.00/hour

• This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

Competitive Shift Differentials

• Weekday Night (Mon-Thu 6p to 8a): $3.50
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $3.50
• Weekend Night (Fri-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.00

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician and ICU Technician, You Will

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients with almost 100% hands-free techniques.
• Assist with or perform CT, endoscopy, and ultrasonography.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert veterinarians to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes, drains, PICC line catheters, and central line catheters.
• Provided continuous monitoring, treatment, and compassionate care for critically ill ICU patients in a fast-paced veterinary emergency hospital, ensuring the highest standard of patient support and recovery.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R (basic and advanced) CPR guidelines. ALS and BLS certification is provided at no cost to you.
• Mentor and train fellow team members and engage with clients with empathy and professionalism.
