Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health is seeking a skilled Discharge Veterinary Nurse at Veterinary Referral Center in Malvern, PA. You will assist in transitioning patients from hospital care to home, communicating complex medical information clearly to pet owners, and supporting a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities include preparing patients for discharge, filling medications, administering drugs via all routes, and educating families on home care.

Qualifications

Veterinary Referral Center (VRC) is a comprehensive, referral specialty & emergency critical care veterinary hospital in Malvern, Pennsylvania. We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for appointments, advanced imaging, surgery and emergency/critical care services. At our hospital, you'll be working alongside a large team of experienced & board-certified veterinarians with advanced specialized training who utilize the latest innovations in medicine and technology to treat companion animals. Our veterinary services include trauma treatment and critical care, medical oncology, radiation therapy oncology, cardiology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, dentistry/oral surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, MRI and CT, endoscopy, rehabilitation, and emergency services.

We are looking to add a skilled Discharge Veterinary Nurse who plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth transition of pets from veterinary hospital care to home care, to compliment our growing, fast paced hospital. By joining VRC you will be supported by a team of excellent nurses and assistants along with experienced, board-certified veterinarians. We utilize the latest innovations in medicine and technology to treat companion animals on an emergency basis and/or long-term ailments.

Responsibilities
  • Properly prepare patients for discharge including, but not limited to: Remove IV catheters, be sure patients are clean, verify correct medications are filled TGH, verify discharge paperwork is completed. If applicable, ensure patient has an appropriately sized e-collar TGH.
  • The candidate should be able to clearly communicate on both medical procedures and pharmacology, while also being able to perform client demonstrations such as (but not limited to) bladder expression, insulin administration, E tube feedings, care, and maintenance and nebulization.
  • Effectively relaying complex information to pet owners to help them understand and manage their pets’ care at home.
  • Fill medications for clients to give at home.
  • Administrate medications in all routes (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous).
  • Handle client communications and properly document in the patient’s medical record.
  • Educating pet owners on how to care for their animals and promoting preventative healthcare.
  • Assist with pharmacy line and filling medications in down-time.
Schedule
  • The schedule consists of a 2-week rotation, some weekend hours required.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Once a month on call is required for qualified applicants.
Compensation
  • Hourly range $22-$34/hour
  • Recognition and compensation for licensure
    • Active CVT licensure receives additional $2.00/hr.
    • Active VTS receives an additional $2.00/hr. (combined w/CVT)
  • Shift incentives, On Call Stipends and Shift Differentials available.
Preferred skills:
  • 1-3years of veterinary experience
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Holiday and weekend requirements
  • On-call requirement for applicants with clinical experience
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude, be a team player
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with others.
