Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in South Austin is launching a new emergency and critical care unit and seeks an experienced Critical Care Veterinary Technician to join the founding team. You’ll triage, monitor, place catheters, and support advanced nursing care in a state-of-the-art setting.

The role requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as a full-time team member, collaborating with veterinarians and technicians to deliver exceptional patient care.

As a Critical Care Veterinary Technician, You Will:

• Triage emergency and critical care patients, obtain patient histories, and assess vital signs.
• Recognize changes in patient condition, identify patients at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, and initiate CPR when needed.
• Place IV catheters and perform advanced catheter placement, including jugular catheters, central lines, and PICC lines.
• Monitor and care for mechanically ventilated patients.
• Monitor critical patients closely, recognize signs of deterioration, and respond promptly to changes in clinical status.
• Calculate and administer medications, including continuous rate infusions (CRIs).
• Assist with emergency procedures and provide advanced nursing care to critically ill patients.
• Collaborate with veterinarians, fellow technicians, and assistants to deliver high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
• Mentor and train fellow team members while contributing to a positive, supportive learning environment.
• Provide compassionate care to patients and their families during some of their most challenging moments.

This is a full-time position requiring flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
