Job summary

Colgate is seeking a Veterinary and Clinical Research Technician to coordinate veterinary hospital operations, manage biological sample workflows, and support lab research programs. The role requires RVT licensure, strong computer skills, and experience in a veterinary setting.

The Veterinary and Clinical Research Technician will take ownership of coordinating and managing various tasks within our Veterinary Hospital & laboratory operations. This role is critical for ensuring comprehensive veterinary support, efficient biological sample collection, and analytical testing. You will also play a vital role in supporting Pet Nutrition Center research programs and facilitating training for Animal Care Research Technicians.

Key Responsibilities
Veterinary Hospital Coordination
  • Clinical Oversight: Direct hospital functions including diagnostic testing, radiography, laser treatments, dental prophylaxis, and surgical preparations.
  • Advanced Imaging: Perform Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans.
  • Anesthesia: Administer and manage anesthetic procedures.
  • ICU Care: Oversight of pets in ICU, including IV placement, fluid management, medication administration, and direct communication with veterinarians.
  • Standards: Ensure compliance with American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) standards.
  • Oral Health: Perform dental grading methods; collaborate with oral health scientists to ensure accurate and consistent evaluation of plaque, tartar, calculus, and gingivitis.
Biological Sample and Laboratory Operations
  • Analysis: Conduct biological sample analysis utilizing automated analyzers and manual methods to support research and health initiatives.
  • Equipment Oversight: Manage instrument calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting in adherence to lab and manufacturer protocols.
  • Coordination: Manage the preparation and execution of biological sample collection activities. Liaise with scientists and key stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration.
  • Inventory: Manage inventory levels of laboratory supplies and consumables to ensure uninterrupted lab operations.
Training and Development
  • Mentorship: Lead training initiatives for Animal Care Research Technicians, focusing on dental grading, phlebotomy, and radiology.
  • Safety: Coordinate annual x-ray safety training for the appropriate parties.
Medication and Inventory Management (Clinic)
  • Controlled Substances: Oversee controlled drug inventory in collaboration with veterinarians, ensuring precise record-keeping.
  • Pharmacy: Coordinate the preparation and dispensing of prescribed medications, vaccines, and heartworm prevention.
  • Supplies: Manage the ordering and inventory of medical supplies within the clinic.

Education & Experience Requirements
Basic Qualifications
  • Credential: Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with active license.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of work experience in a veterinary hospital, laboratory or animal care facility.
  • Technical Skills: Computer proficiency and knowledge of Google applications or similar.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, bend, pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Environment: Ability to work with cats and dogs on a daily basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Medical Technologist certification.
  • Experience in a clinical or chemistry laboratory.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and meticulous record-keeping, communication, and organizational/planning skills.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $57,600.00 - $80,000.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
