Job summary

Chisholm Ridge Pet Hospital is seeking an Experienced or Licensed Surgical Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated four-doctor team. You will assist surgeons, prepare sterile environments, monitor anesthesia, and provide high-quality patient care with a focus on Fear Free handling.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician or experienced surgical veterinary technician.
  • Experience assisting with surgical procedures and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Strong clinical skills and ability to work in a fast-paced hospital.

  • Excellent communication and client education skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures from prep through recovery.
  • Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and equipment.
  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia; monitor vital signs.
  • Venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection.
  • Administer medications and fluids as directed.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and site prep.
  • Monitor hospitalized and surgical patients.
  • Perform in-house lab tests and imaging as needed.

What Our Veterinary Technicians Do
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures from preparation through recovery
  • Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and equipment
  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia while closely observing patient vital signs
  • Perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and sample collection
  • Administer medications, treatments, and fluid therapy as directed
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including surgical site preparation
  • Monitor hospitalized and surgical patients throughout their stay
  • Perform in‑house laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging as needed
  • Maintain sterile technique and proper instrument care
  • Accurately document treatments, anesthesia records, and medical notes
  • Educate clients regarding surgical procedures, medications, discharge instructions, and postoperative care
  • Practice Fear Free and low‑stress handling techniques to promote positive patient experiences
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians and fellow team members to provide outstanding patient care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well‑stocked treatment and surgical areas
  • Support daily hospital operations while promoting a positive team environment
What Our Veterinary Technicians Bring
  • Veterinary Technician license or substantial surgical veterinary technician experience
  • Previous experience assisting with surgical procedures and anesthesia monitoring
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory procedures, and patient nursing

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the hospital for extended periods
  • Ability to safely lift and restrain patients of varying sizes with assistance when appropriate

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform technical nursing and surgical duties
  • Exposure to animals, cleaning agents, anesthetic gases, and other veterinary hospital conditions while following established safety protocols
