Job summary

VCA Mueller Pet Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, seeks a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Emergency team. This 24-hour AAHA-accredited hospital offers a fast-paced, high-standards environment with opportunities for advanced nursing, anesthesia, and surgical care.

The ideal candidate holds a California RVT license, thrives under pressure, and collaborates well with doctors and teammates to deliver exceptional patient care during busy hours on a 4x10 swing schedule.

Qualifications

  • Holds a California RVT license in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform triage and nursing assessments.
  • Calculate, prepare, and administer medications and CRIs.
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist with emergency and urgent surgeries.
  • Perform CPR and life-saving emergency interventions.
  • Provide advanced nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
  • Venipuncture, catheter placement, labs, and diagnostic testing.
  • Obtain radiographs and assist with advanced diagnostics.
  • Monitor recovery and pain management.
  • Educate clients and facilitate patient discharges.
  • Collaborate with Emergency, Surgery, ICU, and ICW teams.

VCA Mueller Pet Medical Center | Sacramento, CA

Compensation: $29–36/hr (DOE)+ Shift Differential

Schedule: FT | 4x10 schedule | Wednesday–Saturday | Swing Shift | Schedule posted one month in advance to promote work-life balance

VCA Mueller Pet Medical Center is a 24-hour AAHA-accredited hybrid General Practice and Emergency hospital seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)to join our Emergency team. This role is ideal for an RVT who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys emergency and surgical nursing, and is passionate about providing exceptional patient care during some of the hospital's busiest hours. You'll work alongside a collaborative team of Emergency veterinarians, technicians, and assistants caring for a diverse caseload ranging from urgent medical concerns to critical emergencies requiring advanced nursing care.

Surgical and anesthesia experience is strongly preferred.

What You'll Do
  • Performing patient triage and nursing assessments
  • Calculating, preparing, and administering medications and CRIs
  • Monitoring anesthesia and assisting with emergency and urgent surgical procedures
  • Performing CPR and participating in life‑saving emergency interventions
  • Providing advanced nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients
  • Performing venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, and diagnostic testing
  • Obtaining radiographs and assisting with advanced diagnostics
  • Monitoring patient recovery and pain management
  • Educating clients and facilitating patient discharges
  • Collaborating closely with Emergency, Surgery, ICU, and ICW teams to provide seamless patient care
