Job description

Relief Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT)
Relief/Locum Position | Flexible, As-Needed Schedule

We are seeking an experienced, credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our team on a relief/locum basis. This position is ideal for a skilled technician looking for flexible, as-needed work while providing exceptional patient care and client service.

Position Overview

As a relief technician, hours are not guaranteed and will fluctuate based on the hospital's staffing needs, including employee vacations, illnesses, and other absences. Shifts may become available with little notice due to unexpected call‑outs.

While we appreciate flexibility and availability, relief technicians are not obligated to accept last‑minute shift requests.

Once a scheduled shift has been accepted and posted, the relief technician is responsible for finding appropriate coverage if they are no longer able to work that shift.

Why We Need You

As a member of the VCA team, your mission is to earn the confidence of every pet parent by delivering exceptional patient care and an outstanding client experience, creating lifelong partnerships in the care of their companion animals.

You've worked hard to earn your veterinary technician credential, and we want you to put those skills to work. The successful candidate believes in the possibilities of high‑quality veterinary medicine and has the technical expertise to make exceptional patient care happen every day.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Venipuncture
  • IV catheter placement
  • Digital radiology
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Physical examinations and patient assessment
  • Surgical preparation and assistance
  • Dentistry
  • Laboratory procedures
  • Pharmacy duties
  • Patient recovery
  • Compassionate nursing care for hospitalized patients
Why You Should Consider Us

At VCA, your passion for veterinary medicine and compassion for pets and people are matched by our commitment to your professional growth.

As part of our team, you'll enjoy:

  • Exposure to a diverse and stimulating caseload
  • Access to advanced imaging, monitoring, and medical equipment
  • Collaboration with more than 4,500 veterinarians, including over 600 board-certified specialists
  • Opportunities to expand your technical skills and learn new procedures
  • Access to continuing education, specialty training, leadership development, and career advancement opportunities within the VCA network
Schedule Expectations

This is a relief/as‑needed position.

Candidates must:
  • Hold a current Veterinary Technician credential (CVT, LVT, or RVT, as applicable).
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule based on hospital needs.
  • Be willing to work evenings and occasional Saturdays.
  • Be reliable, adaptable, and comfortable working with varying schedules.
  • Understand that hours will vary and are dependent upon staffing needs.

If you are an experienced veterinary technician who enjoys flexibility, thrives in a fast‑paced environment, and is passionate about providing exceptional patient care, we'd love to hear from you.

Benefits: We offer competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision and paid vacation/sick days, 401(k), generous employee pet discounts and more!
