Job summary

ABQ Petcare Hospital in Albuquerque is seeking an experienced or licensed Veterinary Technician to join a five-doctor practice offering general and urgent care. You will assist veterinarians during exams and surgeries and provide anesthesia monitoring.

You will perform lab work, maintain medical records, educate pet owners, and help with dental procedures, imaging, and anesthesia. The hospital emphasizes work/life balance and a supportive team with opportunities for continuing education.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician preferred; experience may substitute.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary terminology and procedures.
  • Proficiency in veterinary software and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle and restrain various animal species safely.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in high-pressure and emergency situations.
  • Familiarity with advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment.
  • Certification in specialized veterinary fields (anesthesia or dentistry).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgeries.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures such as blood draws and urinalysis.
  • Collect and perform laboratory tests on samples.
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist during surgical procedures.
  • Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery.
  • Maintain accurate medical records for each patient.
  • Perform dental cleanings and assist with dental procedures.
  • Educate pet owners on nutrition and preventive care.
  • Handle and restrain animals during examinations and treatments.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines and blood analyzers.
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Assist with euthanasia procedures and support owners.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies for the clinic.
  • Conduct triage and provide emergency first aid to animals.
  • Stay current with industry developments and continue education.

We are a five doctor practice that offers both general and urgent/emergent care. We are seeking an experienced or licensed Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in delivering top-notch care to our furry, feathered, and scaled patients.

Veterinary Technician Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgeries
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures such as blood draws, urinalysis, and fecal exams
  • Collect and perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and tissue samples
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist during surgical procedures
  • Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery of animals
  • Maintain accurate medical records for each patient
  • Perform dental cleanings and assist with dental procedures
  • Educate pet owners on proper nutrition, preventive care, and overall animal health
  • Handle and restrain animals during examinations and treatments
  • Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines and blood analyzers
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Assist with euthanasia procedures and provide compassionate support to grieving pet owners
  • Manage inventory and order supplies for the clinic
  • Conduct triage and provide emergency first aid to animals
  • Assist with inventory management
  • Stay current with industry developments and attend continuing education opportunities as required
Veterinary Technician Qualifications & Skills
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician through a recognized accrediting body preferred, however experience may be substituted for education
  • Strong understanding of veterinary terminology and procedures
  • Proficiency in veterinary software and electronic medical records
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle and restrain various animal species safely
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in high-pressure and emergency situations

The base hourly range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00. Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role, experience, education level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
