Job summary

Black River Veterinary Hospital is a progressive general practice with a board-certified surgeon on staff, and seeks a skilled Veterinary Technician to join the Surgical Department. This role emphasizes surgical nursing, anesthesia monitoring, and teamwork.

You will assist with a range of procedures, ensure patient safety, maintain records, and communicate with clients as part of a collaborative medical team.

Qualifications

• Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT) or experience equivalent.
• Experience in a surgical or anesthesia-focused role.
• Strong technical skills in anesthesia and patient monitoring.
• Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a calm, professional demeanor.
• Commitment to ongoing learning and a passion for patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a wide range of surgical procedures—from routine spays and neuters to complex orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries
• Perform anesthesia induction and monitoring, including advanced cases
• Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and patients in accordance with best practices
• Provide excellent post-operative care and monitoring
• Maintain accurate patient records and assist with client communication as needed
• Support a positive and efficient team environment, with a focus on patient safety and comfort
