Mission Pet Health in Grapevine, TX is seeking an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant to support board-certified ophthalmologists and a resident in a fast-paced specialty clinic. You will assist with patient exams, anesthesia monitoring, and ophthalmic procedures, while delivering compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (must be at least 18).
  • Veterinary assistant experience required; ophthalmic/surgical experience a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Assist ophthalmologists and techs with patient exams, triage, procedures, and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Prepare patients, assist with positioning, restraint, medications, and equipment maintenance.
  • Support diagnostic testing and accurate documentation of findings.
  • Monitor recovery, assist with pain management, maintain sterile facility.
  • Discharge patients, review post-procedure plans, and support client communications.
  • Maintain medical records, prescriptions, and invoices; assist with inventory and training.

Your Impact as an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant
  • Deliver Hands-On Clinical Support: You'll assist ophthalmologists and technicians with patient exams, triage, ophthalmic procedures, and anesthesia or sedation monitoring, as well as administering oral and topical medications.
  • Prepare and Support Every Procedure: You'll prepare patients for ophthalmic exams and procedures, assist with positioning and gentle restraint for delicate eye work, administer ophthalmic medications and eye drops, and help with instrument cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of specialized ophthalmic equipment.
  • Support Ophthalmic Diagnostic Testing: You'll assist with ophthalmic diagnostic testing such as Schirmer tear tests, tonometry (intraocular pressure measurement), and fluorescein staining, and support accurate documentation of findings throughout each exam.
  • Provide Post-Procedure and Compassionate Care: You'll monitor patients during recovery, support pain management, and ensure patient comfort—all while maintaining a clean, organized, and sterile facility.
  • Create a Positive Client Experience: You'll discharge patients, review post-procedure treatment plans, at‑home eye care and medication administration, and follow-up instructions with clients, and assist with client service operations such as answering phones and scheduling appointments.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: You'll accurately maintain medical records, prescriptions, and invoices using our computer systems, support procedure room turnover, help monitor ophthalmic supply inventory, and assist with training new teammates.
What You'll Bring to the Team
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent (must be at least 18 years old).
  • Veterinary assistant experience is required; experience in an ophthalmic or surgical environment is a plus.
  • A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast‑paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
  • Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • The physical capability to lift and carry animals up to 40 lbs, with comfort in prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and physical activity.
