South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) in Asheville, NC seeks a Medical Director to guide the hospital toward excellence, balancing clinical leadership with operational stewardship. You’ll remain close to patient care through a partial clinical caseload while shaping the hospital’s future.

This role focuses on medical policy, DVM mentorship, continuing education, and collaboration with a strong emergency team.

Responsibilities

• Providing medical leadership and strategic direction for the hospital
• Collaborating with the Hospital Director to ensure operational excellence
• Mentoring and developing a team of doctors to uphold best practices
• Leading medical quality assurance and continuing education efforts
• Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and retention of top-tier clinicians
• Championing a culture of collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement
• Responsible for development and maintenance of medical policies and medical SOPs that champion evidence-based medicine
• Coordinates teaching rounds for DVMs
• Participates in CE events for internal DVM team and referring community
• Partners with the Hospital Director to investigate patient safety concerns
• Supports HD for medical and equipment innovation and performs research as requested by HD
• Coordinates onboarding and training of staff DVMs
• Communicates opportunities for clinical trials through Ethos Science and Discovery
• Reviews engagement surveys and supports team engagement initiatives
• Manages DVM clinical schedule and PTO/CE time decisions
• Oversees clinical operations and scheduling efficiencies
• Reviews medical records to ensure compliance with regulations
