The Role
- Lead, coach, and develop associate veterinarians across assigned hospitals; build engagement and retention through supportive, inclusive team culture.
- Serve as a working manager who provides clinical care part of the time while overseeing medical quality and operational performance.
- Uphold clinical standards through case discussions, medical record reviews, quality assessments, and patient safety follow-up.
- Partner with hospital leadership to deliver high-quality medicine and strong client experiences that support hospital goals.
- Guide onboarding and coaching programs for new veterinarians to build confidence in clinical, surgical, and dental skills.
- Collaborate with recruiting teams, host externs and candidates, and represent the hospitals within the local veterinary community.
- Oversee compliance in areas such as controlled substances and radiation safety, and ensure alignment with state and federal regulations.
- Manage medical equipment needs and support access-to-care initiatives that enhance client satisfaction.
Requirements
- DVM/VMD degree from an accredited institution
- Active Michigan veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain prior to start)
- DEA license (or eligibility to obtain)
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- Proven clinical proficiency in small-animal general practice, including dentistry and routine surgery
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach, mentor, and inspire veterinary teams
- Strong communication skills and commitment to medical quality, client service, and regulatory compliance
- Comfort with digital radiography, in-house lab workflows, and a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Willingness to work some weekend coverage in line with the hospital schedule
