Job summary

Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty in Bowie, Maryland seeks a Veterinary Medical Director to lead our Emergency and Specialty services. The ProSal model offers a base of $220,000–$250,000 with a monthly production bonus and potential earnings over $275,000, with no negative accrual.

This is a full-time role with a four-day work week and at least 50% administrative duties. We host seven specialty departments under one roof and emphasize teaching, mentorship, and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, ideally in an Emergency/Specialty hospital, and 1–2 years of leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee medical standards and ensure patients receive high-quality care.
  • Support and mentor a team of 21 veterinarians, including providing case consultation and guidance on complex or critical cases.
  • Collaborate with Hospital Manager to identify opportunities to expand or improve medical services based on patient and community needs.
  • Monitor patient care, medical protocols, and compliance with hospital policies and veterinary standards.
  • Lead or participate in medical rounds, case reviews, and team meetings.
  • Address client escalations and aid in resolution of medical concerns and customer service issues.
  • Partner with Hospital Director to identify opportunities to expand or improve medical services based on patient and community needs and contribute to long-term medical and operational strategy.

In your day-to-day, you will:

- Oversee medical standards and ensure patients receive consistent, high-quality care.

- Support and mentor a team of 21 veterinarians, including providing case consultation and guidance on complex or critical cases.

- Collaborate with the hospital manager and leadership team on day-to-day hospital operations.

- Monitor patient care, medical protocols, and compliance with hospital policies and veterinary standards.

What You Bring
