Job summary

Northfield Veterinary Center, a growing specialty hospital, is seeking a Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist. This full-time or part-time opportunity in Northfield, New Jersey offers a flexible schedule and a collaborative, patient‑centered practice dedicated to advanced diagnostics and hands-on care.

You will join a multidisciplinary team including Emergency, Critical Care, Surgery and Cardiology, with access to CT and ultrasound.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
  • Board Certification in Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or Residency Training in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex internal medicine cases spanning GI, hepatobiliary, infectious disease, endocrine, hematologic, and respiratory conditions.
  • Perform and interpret advanced diagnostic procedures including ultrasound, CT, and endoscopy.
  • Collaborate with Emergency, Critical Care, Surgery, Cardiology and other specialty teams for integrated care.
  • Coordinate consultations, referrals, and patient transfers across specialty and emergency services.
  • Mentor technicians and assistants while fostering a collaborative clinical environment.

The anticipated starting base salary range for individuals expressing interest in this position is $220,000 to $280,000 per year.

In your day-to-day, you will:
  • Manage complex internal medicine cases spanning gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, infectious disease, endocrine, hematologic, and respiratory conditions.
  • Perform and interpret advanced diagnostic procedures including ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, CT, and other specialty imaging modalities to guide patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Collaborate closely with Emergency, Critical Care, Surgery, Cardiology, and other specialty teams to provide comprehensive management of complex and shared patients.
  • Coordinate consultations, referrals, and patient transfers across specialty and emergency services to ensure seamless continuity of care.
  • Utilize advanced hospital resources including CT, ultrasound, and diagnostic imaging capabilities to support exceptional patient outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with referring veterinarians through collaborative case management, expert consultation, and proactive communication.
  • Guide pet owners through complex medical conditions with empathy, transparency, and confidence, helping them make informed decisions regarding their pet's care.
  • Mentor technicians and assistants as part of daily case management while fostering a collaborative and high-performing clinical environment.
  • Pursue opportunities to expand your expertise through advanced ultrasound proficiency, interventional radiology procedures, electrochemotherapy (ECT) training, and other emerging areas of specialty medicine.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of Internal Medicine services while supporting a culture of teamwork, innovation, and clinical excellence.
