The Orange County Animal Services Department invites applications for a Veterinary Health Care Technician (VHCT) to assist with examinations and medical procedures for animals in the shelter and those adopted out. This role works under the Medical Program Supervisor and Medical Director Veterinarian, with opportunities to exercise independent judgment within department policies.
A NC associate degree in veterinary medical technology and relevant experience are required; additional certifications
The work involves performing physical and behavioral examination and medical procedures of animals admitted to, and adopted from, the animal shelter.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Medical Program Supervisor and Medical Director Veterinarian with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding needs and requests. Supervision or leading others is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered college or university with an associate degree in veterinary medical technology or closely related field ANDthree (3) years of veterinary experience, OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
