Job summary

Garland Animal Clinic externships offer hands-on clinical experience under supervising Associate Veterinarians, including patient histories, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and observing or performing surgical procedures.

Externs will strengthen communication with the medical team, support staff and clients. Most externships run two to eight weeks; veterinary students in the clinical portion are eligible, and Garland offers a $1,000 travel/living stipend.

Qualifications

• Gaining hands-on clinical experience under supervision
• Develop communication with medical team, staff, and clients
• Participate in patient histories, exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical procedures

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans and order diagnostics
• Assist or perform dental procedures and surgeries as needed
• Manage medical cases and overall patient care
• Improve communication within the care team and with clients
