Abqpetcarehospital in Palm City, Florida, offers a unique externship experience for veterinary students. This program provides hands-on clinical experience by working closely with Associate Veterinarians, where students will gather patient histories, perform physical exams, and assist in surgeries. With externships ranging from two to eight weeks, all veterinary students are encouraged to participate and gain critical insights into the field.

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures, and managing patients medically. They will also practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences at Palm City Animal Medical Center range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All Veterinary students—regardless of class year—are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Refer to the stipend program for list of amounts and details.
