Job summary

A leading global pet care organization in Boca Raton is offering externships for DVM students to gain hands-on clinical experience. Students will work closely with veterinarians to perform tasks such as patient histories, physical exams, and assist in surgical procedures. Opportunities range from two to eight weeks, and a travel/living expense stipend is available.

Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. We are currently a five-doctor general practice with a phenomenal support staff, Idexx in-house labs, digital x-ray, ultrasound, laser surgery, and digital dental x-ray in-office. We also offer boarding and daycare to our loyal clients. We are a fast-paced hospital that sees a wide range of appointments and surgeries.

Responsibilities

Students will work closely with the supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship duration

Most externship experiences at TLC Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Stipend
