Job summary

Abqpetcarehospital in Alabama offers an externship opportunity for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. Students will work directly with Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform exams, and assist in surgeries.

This externship program ranges from two to eight weeks and includes a stipend for travel/living expenses, and a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.

Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

Most externship experiences at May Veterinary Clinic range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All Veterinary students are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Responsibilities

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in or performing surgical procedures, and managing patients medically. In addition, externs will practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Eligibility & Stipend

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Further details on the stipend program are available.
