Job summary

Alamogordo Animal Hospital is seeking experienced Veterinary Assistants to join our busy 3-doctor practice in Alamogordo, NM. We are open to part-time and full-time applicants, with a starting wage of $15 per hour depending on experience, education, licensure, and certifications.

The role includes assisting with exams, blood draws, radiology, lab work, and anesthesia/surgery support, plus cross-training to reception duties.

Qualifications

• New graduates encouraged to apply.
• Previous veterinary clinical experience required
• Ability to safely handle and restrain pets for examination and treatment
• Experience obtaining accurate and thorough medical histories
• Comfortable performing basic exams and TPRs
• Skilled in blood draws (cephalic, saphenous, jugular)
• Strong animal handling skills and knowledge of clinical procedures
• Willingness to cross-train to reception duties
• Diagnostic digital radiology including positioning
• Laboratory skills such as ear and fecal cytology; IDEXX, Sedivue
• Experienced in assisting with surgery and anesthesia (induction, intubation, monitoring, aseptic technique, post-operative care)
• Ability to perform basic dental procedures such as cleaning, polishing and charting
• Knowledge of common medications and how to dispense per doctor orders
