Veterinary Assistant - SA 24/7 Care

Position Summary

Provides animal care including feeding, watering, walking, transport, restraining, grooming, stocking supplies, maintaining clinical records, and maintaining facility cleanliness. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and assists senior veterinary staff with animal care.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Patient management: assist Registered Veterinary Technicians with physical examinations, phlebotomy, sample collection, medication and fluid administration, and case management.
• Provide intermediate animal care: walk, water, feed, transport, restrain, groom, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Maintain clinical records by writing chart entries and inputting charges into proprietary software.
• Stock supplies of cleaning products and patient care equipment, ensuring facility cleanliness with mop, broom, chemical cleaning supplies to sanitize cages and floors.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.
• Wear all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles, etc.
• Work with wound care equipment, cleaning solutions, and other materials to prevent infections.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.

Preferred: Experience within small animal veterinary hospital or clinic.

Shift Schedule & Compensation

Varied 10‑hour scheduled shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and some on‑call. Advertised salary: $16.78 per hour, plus 24/7 unit and shift differential.
