Job summary

COVE Animal Health in Middletown, CT, is looking for a dedicated Veterinary Assistant for its VECCS Level I Hospital. You will work in a collaborative team environment, providing top-quality care and support to patients while also pursuing continued education and professional development.

The position offers a full-time schedule, competitive compensation ranging from $19.50 to $22.00 per hour, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance.

Candidates should be comfortable with surgical prep, animal handling, and have at least one year of experience in a veterinary ER for ECC roles.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a veterinary ER is required for ECC positions.
  • Comfortable with handling/restraint and assisting Veterinary Technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Veterinary Technicians and staff members in a clinical setting.
  • Handle and restrain animals during procedures.
  • Prepare for and assist in basic surgeries.

Veterinary Assistant - Internal Medicine

About You

We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant who is already comfortable with handling/restraint, basic surgery prep, and assisting Veterinary Technicians and other staff members in a clinical setting. Experience with EzyVet and Smartflow are an additional plus but not required. We highly value collaboration from all staff members, so please speak up as your input is not only valued but can make a difference. If you are interested in the ECC positions, a minimum of 1 year of experience in a veterinary ER is required.


Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position

4 days a week / 10-hour shifts.


Weekends and holidays are required.


Compensation

Starting at $19.50-$22.00 / hour dependent on experience.

Requirements


  • Knowledge of the procedures used for scheduling patients, receiving, treating, ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.

  • Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.

  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques to sterilize various instruments and materials.

  • Knowledge of the instruments, materials, and standardized procedures used in the full variety of treatments to make preparations and provide “tableside” assistance.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction.

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
