Job summary

Putnam Veterinary Clinic in Shrewsbury, MA is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our AAHA-accredited, full-service small-animal practice. This role offers a diverse caseload, mentorship, and a clear path toward credentialed technician training within a supportive network.

You’ll perform venipuncture, administer medications, assist with surgery and anesthesia, and educate clients on vaccines.

Qualifications

• Must have proficiency with patient restraint.
• Must have proficiency with venipuncture.
• Experience with IV catheter placement.
• Proficiency reading ear cytologies.
• Ability to administer medications.
• Ability to confidently explain core vs. lifestyle vaccines to clients.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Compassionate approach to patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care and restraint for dogs and cats.
• Perform venipuncture and assist with IV catheter placement.
• Read and evaluate ear cytologies.
• Administer medications and treatments.
• Assist doctors and technicians with medical and surgical procedures.
• Assist with anesthesia and patient monitoring.
• Support dental procedures and dental surgery.
• Assist with diagnostic testing and imaging.
• Educate clients about vaccines and preventatives.
• Assist with patient intake, treatments, and discharge instructions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, Fear Free environment.
• Work collaboratively with doctors, technicians, and the veterinary team.
