PetVet Care Centers Florida Equine Veterinary Associates in Ocala, Florida, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support veterinarians in daily tasks, including radiography, medications, and in-field procedures for horses.

Qualifications

  • Equine knowledge and horse handling required.
  • Veterinary technician/assistant with customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Veterinarians during farm calls, including handling and restraining horses safely and professionally.
  • Prepare, load, and maintain ambulatory equipment, supplies, and medications for daily routes.
  • Collect samples and perform basic in-field diagnostic as directed.
  • Support procedures such as lameness exams, injections, wound care and emergencies.
  • Prepare laboratory tests and assist with taking radiographs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital daily and ensure safe chemical use.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and assist with billing and record keeping.
  • Show up for work regularly; full-time presence is essential for every shift.
  • Promote hospital products and services and support the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager; may include office duties and billing.

Position Overview

Join our team as a Veterinary Assistant who provides support to the veterinarians in their daily tasks by assisting the doctors in the field with radiographing, medications, and medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Veterinarians during farm calls, including handling and restraining horses safely and professionally.

  • Support procedures such as lameness exams, injections, wound care and emergencies.
  • Prepare laboratory tests and assist with taking radiographs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital each day; clean equipment, and facilities using chemicals and supplies; ensure the safe use of chemicals; complete laundry
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Maintain accurate medical records, assist with billing and record keeping.
  • Show up for work regularly; full-time presence at work is essential for every shift.
  • Promote hospital products and services and support the organization
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager; May include assisting with office duties, ownerships, and billing.
Qualifications (Required)
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position
  • Veterinary technician/assistant with customer service skills.
  • Equine knowledge and horse handling required. Duties include frequent bending, kneeling, and walking with equipment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Good time management skills, able to multi task, and work independently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
  • Office duties, answering the phones, taking payments, processing health certificates for horses shipping, attaching lab results, DVM billing, processing labs, downloading radiographs and ultrasounds to the server.
  • Clean driving record and a valid driver's license.
  • Great communication skills, a positive "can-do" attitude, and a willingness to learn.
Preferred Skills (Nice To Have)
  • Prior equine technician/assistant experience and knowledge.
  • Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) / Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred but not required.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, with occasional early or late shifts as needed. Some weekends may be required. Must be flexible to meet the needs of the practice.
