Job summary

Vernon Hills Animal Hospital in Mundelein, IL, seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, seize opportunities for in-house tests, and prep animals for procedures. You will monitor hospitalized pets, manage specimens, and educate clients about care plans.

Applicants should be able to lift up to 25 pounds, work weekends as needed, and have basic math and computer skills. Experience is preferred; benefits are offered for full-time staff.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; assist with heavier loads with help.
• Basic math and dosage calculations for medications.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication to ensure patient safety and client understanding.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with medical and surgical tasks.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams.
• Perform in-house laboratory work and handle specimens.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor during procedures.
• Maintain exam rooms, restock supplies, and assist team members.
• Educate clients regarding veterinary care and procedures.
