Job summary

Northlake Animal Hospital in Lake Park, FL is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, monitor hospitalized pets, maintain inventory, prepare prescriptions, and educate clients. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of veterinary assistant experience, and pay is dependent upon experience and skill sets.

Qualifications

• 2 years minimum veterinary assistant experience.
• Ability to work weekends as required.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with heavier loads with help.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including PPE.
• Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and maintain inventory.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; run in-hospital laboratory tests.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and assist with client education.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients and patients.
