Job summary

Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital in Portsmouth, NH is seeking a Veterinary Assistant in Emergency to join a collaborative ER team. This full-time position offers three 12-hour shifts (days or overnights) including one weekend shift, with competitive hourly pay of $18–$20 and a $5/hour night differential.

You'll assist with examinations, radiographs, medications, and client communication while growing skills in emergency and specialty medicine.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures
• Safely restrain patients for examinations and diagnostics
• Obtain patient histories and record vital signs (TPR, weight, etc.)
• Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for incoming patients
• Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures
• Fill prescriptions and review discharge instructions with clients
• Communicate professionally with clients in person, by phone, and via email
• Admit patients for hospitalization and ensure proper identification
• Monitor patient comfort and assist with feeding, walking, bathing, and general nursing care
• Maintain clean cages, treatment areas, exam rooms, and hospital equipment
• Stock medical supplies and assist with inventory deliveries
• Accurately document patient information in medical records
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient hospital environment

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred
• Passion for providing exceptional patient care and outstanding client service
• Friendly, dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced emergency veterinary hospital
• Willingness to learn, grow, and collaborate with teammates
