Job summary

Banfield Pet Hospital in San Diego, CA is seeking a Full-time Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, educate clients, and help maintain a safe hospital environment.

You will leverage NAVTA-aligned skills to assist procedures, monitor hospitalized pets, and mentor paraprofessionals while upholding Banfield's Five Principles.

The role requires strong English communication, multitasking, and willingness to work evenings/weekends in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Certificate of NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent.
• High School Diploma preferred.
• NAVTA guidelines knowledge and state practice acts familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• Act as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure the best quality pet care and to maximize productivity.
• Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service, including preparatory work for procedures and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets.
• Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care, pet health, hospital services and issues.
• Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper medical charts.
• Ensure safety of pets, clients and associates by safe restraining techniques and clean treatment areas.
• Assist with surgery as applicable.
• Utilize NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties.
• Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
• Other duties as assigned.
